Red Light Therapy

Red Light Therapy Bed

Red light therapy-what is it? How does it work? Why would I benefit from it?

Aston Wellness is excited to be offering you a new service, red light therapy! Red light therapy is a safe and non-invasive therapy that works by delivering concentrated wavelengths of natural red and near-infrared light into the skin and to the cells of your body.

What is it?

Red light therapy treatments provide many benefits that all come from one source! All you have to do is lie down on the bed and let the machine do the work. The red light and infrared technologies in the bed produces a biochemical reaction within your body and the mitochondria in your cells to aid your cells to be in optimal condition. This ultimately helps with healing pain, sleep issues, skin issues, muscle recovery, and many more issues in our bodies.

How does it work?

If there’s one thing we know about biology is that mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell. But how will that affect our body? The latest research shows that the mitochondria is responsible for fueling the functioning of our organs. This means that when the functioning of the mitochondria isn’t optimal, so is the functioning of our bodies at a deeper level. This translates to negative effects that we can see and feel; poor skin, aches and pains, immune deficiencies, and other afflictions.

Just like how food provides nutrients so does light. We all know that UV light produces vitamin D in our bodies, and how blue light affects your circadian rhythm. Both UV light and blue light are part of what we refer to as the five “bioactive” types of light, along with far-infrared light, red light, and near-infrared light. These different types of lights all cause different wavelengths and penetrate the body at varying depths and will ultimately affects the body at various levels.

Taking a step back to mitochondria- how does Red light therapy affect it? Red light and infrared light produce a biochemical reaction within the mitochondria that will help it use oxygen more efficiently to produce “adenosine triphosphate” (this is the molecule that transports energy throughout the body).

Another way that Red light therapy works is by exerting temporary stress on the cells, much like how exercising stresses out your muscles. This stress will provoke an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant response in the cells which, will ultimately make them stronger.

What are the benefits of Red light therapy- why should I use it?

The list of benefits of red light therapy is long, and it is growing every day, with thousands of peer-reviewed clinical trials showing the vast range of ways red and infrared light positively affects the body with no known side effects. Some of the main benefits are; reduced pain and inflammation, knee osteoarthritis, arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis pain treatment, lower back pain treatment, enhanced muscle recovery, better fitness performance, increase muscle mass, increased endurance, massive aid in treating acne, wrinkles, reversing sun damage, healing wounds, and diminishing scars. Red light therapy also helps with sleep, while all the screens in our lives emit blue light which tells us to wake up, red light is ideal for winding down and increases melatonin levels in your body.
